Plain-language definitions. AI search engines cite this kind of content heavily — we wrote it so we don't have to send people elsewhere.
SSL / HTTPS
Secure Sockets Layer (now TLS) — the protocol that encrypts traffic between a browser and a website. Sites without HTTPS are flagged as "Not Secure" in browsers and penalized in search rankings. Free certificates are available from Let's Encrypt and AWS Certificate Manager.
Core Web Vitals
A set of three Google-published page-quality metrics: Largest Contentful Paint (LCP — time to render the main content), Interaction to Next Paint (INP — responsiveness to user input), and Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS — visual stability). Sites with good scores rank higher in Google search.
LCP — Largest Contentful Paint
The time, in seconds, before the largest visible element on a page finishes rendering. Google's "good" threshold is under 2.5 seconds.
INP — Interaction to Next Paint
The time, in milliseconds, between a user input (click, tap) and the next visual update. Replaced FID in March 2024. Google's "good" threshold is under 200ms.
CLS — Cumulative Layout Shift
A score from 0 to 1+ measuring how much page content shifts during load. Lower is better. Google's "good" threshold is under 0.1.
Schema markup
Structured data, typically in JSON-LD format, that tells search engines what a page is about (e.g. an article, a service, a local business). Schema markup unlocks rich results in Google search and is heavily cited by AI search engines like ChatGPT and Perplexity.
Lighthouse
Google's open-source automated tool for auditing page quality. Scores Performance, Accessibility, Best Practices, and SEO from 0 to 100. Built into Chrome DevTools.
GEO — Generative Engine Optimization
The practice of optimizing content so it gets cited by AI search engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Claude). Distinct from SEO. Effective patterns include comparison tables, listicles, clear FAQs, and well-cited statistics.
TCPA — Telephone Consumer Protection Act
US federal law restricting outbound calls and SMS to cell phones without prior express written consent. Penalties run $500–$1,500 per violation. CrestViral does not offer outbound calling to non-consented cell numbers.
GHL — GoHighLevel
A CRM and marketing automation platform popular with agencies. Handles contact storage, email/SMS campaigns, booking calendars, and workflows. CrestViral uses GHL as the back-end CRM for client deliverables.
Google Business Profile (GBP)
The free Google listing that shows your business in Maps and the local pack. Optimization is the highest-ROI local SEO activity for service businesses.
Local pack
The map-with-three-listings block that appears on Google search results for local-intent queries. Ranking in the local pack is typically 5–10× more valuable than ranking #1 in standard organic for local businesses.
Citations (NAP)
Mentions of your business name, address, and phone number on third-party directories (Yelp, BBB, etc.). Consistency across citations is a ranking factor for local SEO.
Open Graph / Twitter Card
HTML meta tags that control how a page renders when shared to social media (Facebook, X, LinkedIn). Without them, shared links look broken.
llms.txt
A proposed standard markdown file at the root of a website (alongside robots.txt) that summarizes the site's purpose and key URLs for AI agents. Adoption is early but growing.
